I noticed one tank that drops 2 degrees F when I turn the heat down when I leave the house. I have the E series on 8 tanks and only one tank has this issue and only when the house drops below 65 degree's. The rest of the tanks are in the basement that doesn't get cooler than 72, even when I lower the heat for the rest of the house. I'm not sure I can fault the heater for my house being cold. And the heater my be undersized for the tank, I have a habit of buying smaller heaters.

i had (well its still in the tank actually) a e300 in my 106 my older house would get cold. like mid 50s and the temp would drop to the low 70s. so i had an extra jager 200w that was going to go into my 220. Added that and it heated the whole tank on its own and the e series never even came on. worst it would get was down to 75.
On my 220 i run a 300w and 100w jager and it stays at 79 no problem.

for the price vs performance the ebo is much more quality than the e series.

OK...? Doesn't change the fact glass heaters have inherent shortcomings in their design... not saying they can't be used successfully. But if I were in the market for a NEW heater, I'd seriously consider titanium.
I have an old 100watt no name glass heater I've had for years and that thing has somehow survived everything I've put it through and is still very accurate. But I've had 3 glass heaters fail on me, including a jager. Ironically, I have a 200watt stealth that has always worked perfectly, even though those probably get the worst reputation on MFK. But I believe it is an older model, not the newer made in china ones.

I have 3 stealths running now (the older models) and I love them. Never had a problem. But I am steering away from the new ones because of the recent problems with them.

Clockwork: I would recommend the newer finnex titanium heaters... they were having issues with the controllers on some models... this is the new one that is supposed to be better... I haven't used it:

Hmm, those heaters look pretty interesting and you can't beat the price. Anybody have any experience with them? Thank you for posting the link, I am going to check into them more :)

Why? I would have to purchase two. What do you like about it?

If you want a accurate, unbreakable, submersible heater buy them. I am switching all my heaters to them. Look up thermic heaters. That's what they are.

I read that you can't fully submerse a fluval e. I like the fully submersible heaters, just so I don't "oops" and drown the thing.

you can fully submers the e series fluval heaters. the manual is wrong.

Dont know if it is available in the states but I will whole heartedly recommend the Hydor external heater, very accurate also no risk of any fish damaging it as it is outside the tank.Mine has been running for 4 years now never had a problem wit it,I certainly wont go back to in tank heaters.

i have 1 rena smart heater 300w heating my whole 140 gallon.... it's got red led so you can see if it's on whenever... and btw it's like never on... tank stays at around 78 degrees got thermostat on both sides to check since tank is 6ft long.... o did i mention they are like completely indestructible... check em out!!:headbang2 and they are cheap... dr. fosters... just get one you'll see. my tank is near 2 windows and it's 22 degrees F outside....warm today...
