I'm in the same Process. I just got 3 pairs of breeding convicts. which the owner said he kept them in a 55G and they always breed.

i have 6 convicts in a 55G with 3 flowers pots and they seem to stay in their area.

if worst comes to worst i'll separate them.

If you guys are growing out cons and are local maybe we could swap females/males for variation.

always good to change up.

good luck.
the only thing I am thnking about with the 55 is when it comes time to get the feeders out i think it will be harder to catch all of them in the 55 gallaon tank and not disturb the egg that they parents have layed. And if you have 2-3 sets of parents in that 55 you may potenionally up set the spawnig of a fewe more sets when you go to catch them. My plan is to keep the parents in 10g tanks so that when i go to get the fry out there is not much room to run. I have a net that is 10'' wide and 6'' tall so it should be fairly easy with that.

Don't use a net to net the fry out!!! Just use your gravel vac to siphon them into another tank there is no need to remove the parents.

Well it is just that a plan for now. lol ----------i am currently try to design a rack to place all these tanks in so i can have a assembly line going. I have a pair of adults in a 10g tank that i got from a lfs member for free, tank and all. And they are digging around the plant pot quite often so i am currently cycling the 20g atnk just to get ready. But I am going to hopefully have the rack built and every tank cycling before i need them. Hopefully.

Well i was not going to remove the parents cause i had planned to leave the fry in the tank with them until they laid the next set of eggs. And at that point i was going to remove them to the next tank. i will try the syphon method, but i think I will probably have removed all the water before ican catch 100+ fry with it.

Just a small update ---I got a pair from a freind that was tired of dealing with the fry and stuck them in one of the 10's. I was not ready for any action just yet so i did not run a heater or give them any place to lay eggs. And that was 6 days ago. I came home today and as I was feeding them i noticed a patch of what looked like moss on the gravel, so i got down on the floor where the tank is and well i have wigglers now. i would guess around 100-125. i never even seen the eggs. they did not clear a spot out or anything. I guess this is why they call them the rats of the fish world.-------------So i will be completing the rack to hold all these tanks this weekend and gert them up and cycling for when the get frisky again.--------i will post some pics of the ghetto rack soon.

green water is just algae water. i use the algae to feed my daphnia which at one point i was feeding my rainbow smelt babies. my convict fry loved it as it was an additional food source, they loved it. i just left my tank by the window, direct sunlight. usually the owner hates green water but fish love it!

**if you ever have goldfish, make sure the water is green, they'll do amazing!

but yeah

just wanted to make sure u guys know that too much algae isn't good for fish as it cuts off their oxygen supply...

Yep sure thing

Well i have the rack for the tanks mostly done i just have to wire a plug up where i want the rack at and move the other 2 tanks over. I am also going to build a small rack between the 29 and 55 for all the chemicals and food and air pump etc. There is also i few pics of my little diy intank sump filter.lol Let me know what you think.

I would suggest using screws in lieu of nails. You will get a better hold. I would watch those nail in case they start to pull out.

If those are screws and I couldn't see, just ignore me.
