Great looking males you two, the largest of my grow outs is only about 3 inches, hopes he grows into a look alike of your guys'
Yours is definitely a male. Great color, and long trailers on his fins. Mine is about 4 inches total length, in a 75 all by himself (except for a few giant danios) he's never had any cichlid tankmates, so I don't know if he's a terror or not.

A 55 should be fine.In saying that,a standard 55 here in Au is 15" wide not 12" but you should still be fine IMO
