read up on it it fits what i can find but i am no ichthyologist

Don't believe everything you read. The Y bar is a pretty loose way to ID a festae, mostly because some festae don't have Y bars and most males don't regularly show their bars.

Your partly right, but you dont have enough experience seeing a fish thats not in breeding colors to recognize and ID. I have a 12" male festae that I havent seen show bars in months. A better way to ID a festae from a mayan is the eye spot on the tail. Mayans takes up most of the tail and festaes have an eye spot less than half the width of the tail. Search through the forum and you will see some good examples of a mayan vs a festae. Its so easy to tell the difference its not even funny.

Plus your telling me that my fish that isnt showing bars doesnt have y bars. The bars arent evening showing so how would you know that? There are examples of festae on this forum that dont have a complete y bar.
