whats the best c02 system to buy? or do you guys recomned diy?

i'd suggest a milwaukee regulator with solenoid and bubble counter. put that on a 5 lb co2 tank and you'll be set. runs about $130 for everything... i know a lot of people with that set up that are very happy. if you have the money, get a sumo regulator like jcardona.

the solenoid can be plugged into a timer with your light so that can be running simultaneously and shut off automatically at the same time. the bubble counter with needle valve allows you to fine tune the co2 levels.

diy is ok... you want the co2 to not go into ur tank when the lights are off. plants release co2 in the dark. this could drop ur pH and oxygen level, compromising the health of ur fish.

I'd recommend going low tech for your first planted tank. Just use excel. You may dip all this money into this set up and it be a failure if you don't know much abut planted tanks. I recommend everyone start out low tech first to understand how everything works.

Plus you have to make sure you properly stock your tank with the right plants too.
