a lot of CA suggestions; how about the Rainbow cichlid (multispinosa)?
they are fairly bright and colorful - - especially when breedng - - and while they aren't dwarf-size, a pair will stay small enough for a 20G . . . they are hardy, tough little fish, but not what I would call aggressive, and they won't damage plants if you want a planted tank
