Help me stock my tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm just worried that with that many fish in that space I will either be unable to keep up with the bioload or have too much aggression in close quarters and end up losing fish.

Yeah, which is why I'd steer clear of mbuna personally in a 3ft tank.

Kind of OT, but have you ever been to Live Fish Direct in Draper?

Yeah I knew mbuna would be pushing it, but I wanted to get some advice from somewhere other then the cloned articles online. Demasoni are out Iguess.

YES, I have been to LFD (Tropical Fish Wholesale) MANY times. Its 10 minutes from my house.

There are other Tangs and even Vics (if you do want to stick with africans) that will work well in a 3ft tank though. Some with even better colors then mbuna :D

Nice - I'm making sure I stop there when I head back to Utah for Pioneer Days. My fam thinks I'm crazy that I want to visit a fish store while on vacation. Course with all the snow in the mountains yet I might go skiing :D

Africans have never been my first choice, as they are incredible trendy here. BUT I am open to just about anything that will be fun to watch. Almost all of my fish are from CA/SA.

Awesome! TFW has a great stock list, but their pricing is just OK. A new store called the Fish Hub opened in Murray. Much smaller selection, but what they have is great and the prices are unbeatable. Are you looking for something specific? Myself and many other local breeders may have what you want for a fraction of TFW's price. And yes, you may just be skiing, haha, or swimming, the flooding has been bad this year. PM me if you are looking for specifics and I'll see if I can track down a local breeder.

Sadly I don't think I'll be buying as I live in MN and I don't want to get gate raped over some fish :D

Africans I have noticed are rather trendy because of their bright coloration and movement. Which is why I like the Tangs/Vics a tad more so then the Mbuna, Peacocks and Haps as they aren't as common. The shellies have interesting behavior - very fun to watch spawning and taking care of their fry.

Maybe I will go with shellies and then some top swimming fish or cichlids that wont bother them.

I just seems like a waste of space to only do shellies. I might just scrap the whole thing and turn it into a frog tank.
