that sounds like good advice I might start doing that myself I just aquired a stock of oscars and I hear tell they are messy fish

Oscars are my messy fish!
Just a light rinse, using sone of the tank water seems to keep them running at their best. I change the polishing pads when i do this too.

Hello I have been doing my homework on selecting a filter setup for my new 240 gallon freshwater tank. I was first going to use a fluval fx5. Then I was told its always better to "double up" your filter for more water movement. Im pretty sure that two fx5's would be super overkill for my tank. So I was considering "doubleing up" a few smaller canister filters. I have looked at the rena xp3, xp4, and maybe the cascade 1200. The reviews of the xps and xp4 seem to be about 50/50. 50 say its great and 50 say its junk. I would like to stay around $200-$300 for my filter set up. Could you please give me some advise on making a good decestion. Easy maintence and efficiency is what i am after and of course healthy, crystal clear water.
Thanks in advance

I have two Rena xp3s on my 75g and I am very pleased with them. I believe in backup filters in case one dies. I got my filters (new) on eBay.com for a lot less than retail.
