so i bought a new test kit today cuz i havent in 2 months ( dont ask why) and heres my numbers which aint good!

ph 6.0
high range ph 7.4
amonia is 0 =)
nitrite is 0
and nitrate is 0

i have 2 oscars and a redtail catfish in my 55gallon( please dont say oh the rtc is gunna get big i kno lets get my water good first)

im goin to buy ph up for my ph but what else?

well first thing id say is double check your readings or have the lfs test it since you should be detecting some nitrate unless your doing a constant drip system or running some kind of nitrate filter

second id say leave the ph your much better with a constant ph than trying to balance it yourself, that only really needed for wild caught fish
so id double check to be safe

so dont even touch the ph? i have a hob filter and its crystal clear but all i kno is the ph is low

+1

Assuming your tank is established and cycled properly, not seeing some Nitrate present is hard to understand.
Either you have some form of 24/7 water changer or you are not testing for Nitrate correctly.
The only remaining conclusion would be that the tank is not cycled.
What are you not telling us ?
Something is missing here. :screwy:

I completely agree with the above advice about PH... it is not low for the species you are keeping and changing it comes with far more risk than allowing it to be low...

I also agree with DawnMarie that your ammonia/nitrite/nitrate readings do not seem accurate...

Your fish are creating ammonia, every living fish does... bacteria will turn that ammonia into nitrite... and other bacteria will turn that nitrite into nitrate...

So you will inevitably have one (or more) of the three... So actually 0 ammonia & 0 nitrite with some nitrate is ideal...

Your doing the tests wrong or the tests are old or something. You might as well have no fish in your 55 if you have no ammonia, nitrite or nitrate.
