Makes you think really.

Found the pic a little while ago, can't remember where, but I guess the message is the same for most of our fishy friends.

Sad but true (Metallica plays in the background of my head). If they instituted export laws like the countries that produce clown loaches, they could preserve the breeding population.

I agree. And a lot of people say that they do, but really, any wild caught fish in your tanks, no matter how small or how common, is contributing to the problem. If aquariums are about being able to look at fish, maybe we should think about looking at fish outside of a glass box.

I think most people on here have bought wildcaught fish, and probably bought a few adults.

Would it be a good or bad thing to introduce some kind of size limit on fish?

Sad but true :(

With anything, if there is no moderation and regulation, we will end up with devistation :(

The Red Tailed Black Shark, if I am not mistaken, is now considered extinct in the wild due to over harvesting for the aquarium trade. Man, either through over collecting, over fishing or down right slaughter, has threatened the world's fish populations to a degree that is simply appauling. Sharks, especially, are feeling the brunt of man's greed and cruelty.

I have not knowingly purchased wild caught fish and will not do so knowingly. If the fish is listed as wild collected or wild caught, I will not purchase it. Doing so will only fuel the market for more wild caught fish, further depleting the wild of the fish that make the wild the wild.

size limit would be great. especially if known what size a fish spawns at.

Take here in La for ex: they found when certain game fish breed and set limits so not to wipe them out. Redfish can be caught 16"-30" and only 5 per person per day with 1 over 30".

If they did that, you might see some fish more available and maybe cost less. Thats a $150+ pleco there.

LOL

Is that true about the red tailed black shark? And i know what you mean about sharks getting a hard deal, but thats not for the aquarium trade (and off-topic, i read an article about the added benefits of having shark fishing bans over quotas and periodic fishing, i think the results were really outstanding)
