I noticed today it has 3 almost spaghetti like strands coming out of its anal hole. One about 2 inches and the other 2 are about 1 inch in length. They are white with a ribbon like segments slightly transparent. As i look close there are more of them mush shorter at the very base. Looks like strings. I am concerned because i have never noticed anything like this with it before. It seems to be wiggling maybe trying to get it out but nothingh major as for behavor, idk. If anyone knows anything about what I am describing please let me know, Im worried. Thank you very much

Hi fishHead!

Your channa most probably has an internal parasite named hexamita, given the symptoms you wrote. It's not deadly if treated but if not can kill it in some time.

Tho I havent tried the Jungle medications yet, many people say that it's quite good. Otherwise we use a human antibiotic that kills them here(metronidazol), it's strong but will certainly help.

Also, a garlic is a good advice, tho I'd say it's better to make your channa eat it with some food. If you have any jelly food or similar, just squeeze a bit of garlic juice in it. It will have much better effect than if you just put it in the water.

Best luck!

thank you I would possiably like to try the metronidazol. What tyoe of dosage should I use? It has been over a week now and I cut up some garlic and put it in the water even though I didn't have much faith in it. I cannot find the jungle medication here in the philippines. While cleaning the gravel I have found 3 or 4 of the paricites. I was hoping some how the garlic chunks worked but i notice again today the strands were comong out of the anal hole again. I will look for some garlic juice and try that until I can learn how to use the metronidazol. It doesn't eat like it used to and isn't aggressive at all. It used to eat a lot and now very very little. Just want it healthy again. Thank you for all the help you guys have provided me with

i had that problem with my micros aswell. does it hang out then a while later go back in? if so, it could be tapeworm. get the tapeworm medecine given to discus/rays and u should be fine, because it will be for sensitive fish. good luck :)

yeah exactly, it comes out like an octopus and then will go back in. I reached in today and pulled it off, came off easy but I know thats not the answer. I will try that tape warm stuff, thank you
