i need some advice please. this is the first time i have ever kept pbass and so far i'm pretty dissapointed. i've had them since end of december 07 and they were 3cm. now they are only 15/17cm. is this a usual growth pattern??

also, i have 1 that is alot more aggresive than the other 2. he hogs all the food and chases the others off so they are not eating. i'm feeding them shrimp as i don't want to have to fork out lots of money on feeders.

they also hide - ALOT. they are in a 7'x2'x2.5' 1000L tank

any advice on feeding, growth and water conditions would be great

I cant see any in your tank????? Ther is always going to be one that is the Hierarchy of the bunch..As for growth its a matter of how much you feed, What you feed and all that jazz...Usually bout a 1'' or so a month depending on the factors previously stated....IS there tank mates that are making them hide

they should grow at 1 inch per month.
it is a huge tank for those small fish.
could probably be why you dont see them much.

hehe thats my point. they always hide and when its feeding time my bigger pbasss flares up his gills and chases them off so they don't get a chance to catch up to him( i assume its a dominant male ). no other tank mates except for plecos and a couple of tandanus catfish around the same size... nothing thats scaring or intimidating them. what do you recommend i feed them? i've also thought of putting a school of silver dollars ( around the same size as the bass ) to try and entice them to free swim. any thoughts would be appreciated.

I put mine in a smaller tank so I could monitor their feeding until they were 4 inch then put them in abigger tank of cours I had one that would punk the other, luckily I do not have that problem anymore since I picked up a pair of monos from Alex they get along so well:)

By the way really nice setup you have.

i had them in a 5'x1.5' tank until they were around 3.5". they were a bit skittish but they were always eager for food. they're definitely different to any other S/A cichlid i've ever kept!! i'll just keep at it i guess but at the moment it just seems like a bit of a waste of a big tank

cheers lee1. it took a while for me to get it right, but i'm happy with the way it looks. was trying to go for a natural look

I also just bought 3 today they're itty bitty and skittish as hell i have them in a 55 until they get bigger, but im kind of disappointed in the pbass babies right now. I have mine eating and spitting out krill and bloodworms. Heres a pic of them if anyone wants to try and help me identify them. They hide behind or under a rock all day im thinking about removing everything and having a bare tank what do yall think? I also have a beat up rainbow fish in the tank and went and bought 5 fancy guppies hoping they (the pbass) will come out and chase the guppies but so far nothing...

nice setup Cuban but i cant see your fish either, I don't understand why they would be hiding so much since there at a good size already.. Try adding more pbass, that should help..
