I think i have mosquito larva growing in my tank. I left the lights on all night by accident and woke up to a whole bunch of baby mosquitos and larva swiming. I am going to do a huge water change. Any other suggestions? should I add salt or something??? The fish don't seem to be affected... yet... It's in my 55 gal piranha tank. PLEASE HELP!!!
can you post a pic. are you sure it is mosquito larva that is really wired i have left my lights on all night and that never happend. go for a verry big water change. if it is possible take you fish out take almost all of you water out then do the usual
I can't really post a pic cause i have no camera and they are too small to use my phone. picture this, everytime i lift the hood up, about 5 to 8 gnat sized bugs fly out, plus i've seen a few mosquitos come out too (that's why im pretty sure) I just added a new plant to the tank and im thinking that may be it. im gonna do a huge water change, but im wondering if anyone knows about some kind of fish friendly water conditioner that can just kill the larva or something, like maybe something you would use for a pond.
I was going to tell you not to worry because your fish will eat them but then I saw that you have pirahna and the larvae are too small for them to eat. I would just use a net and scoop them out. You don't have to do a water change or get chemicals to get rid of them. They won't hurt your fish or affect your water. Don't worry, The Doctor.
yeah haha i could throw a few goldfish in but i don't think they would have much time to eat any larva... i scooped out as much as i could last night, and today im gonna do a big water change and clean my sand so hopefully all the activity will drive away the rest.
i scooped them out and did a water change etc. and the problem is much better. there is no more larva, i still however have a few of these little gnat things that fly around my lights. i guess that's what they are attracted to. does anyone else have this problem, and know how to get rid of them?? right now i am just killing as many as i can catch and shooing away the rest. it's not like an infestation or anything, but it's annoying and kinda gross.
I get insects swarming around the lights occasionally but I'm not bothered by those and when they fall to the water, the fish simply eat them right away.
