I'm going to be moving soon and am looking for some advice in moving the fish without stressing them too much. It would be nice if I didn't have to take the whole tanks apart. I have a 50, 29, and 20. All of the fish are pretty small, the largest being drawf pike around 5 inches. Any advice would be appreciated.

For 30's with small fish, moving short distances, I would siphon out 2/3 of the water (making sure to suck out ALL of the crap in the gravel while emptying) and moving them all in one shebang.

For the 50g, you could do the same or put the fish in a plastic tub with some of the tank water, the fish, and a battery operated air pump.

This thread came up just in time. I actually had the same question only with bigger fish and a longer distance. I've got several 6 to 8 inchers that need to be moved. It's about a 13hr drive. Any idea's?

Sorry for high jacking your thread a little. I just wanted to ask while on the subject.

Bioballs/gravel/filter pads go in buckets, covered in water. Fish go in tubs with as much tank water as you can take (no need to do more then 1/2 the amount of the tanks), along with battery air pumps (can add Amo block and stress coat to water). Dont feed fish for 2 or 3 days before moving them. Do water change beforehand (few days) to make sure water isnt high in ammonia for the move. And if it is, add 1/2 fresh water (with dechlorinator) to 1/2 tank water for fish (plus the amo chips and stress coat).

rather then using a battery air pump, get a power converter for your vec lighter
if you have fish that will fight make sure to put them in separate tubs(i lost some big male fronts this way, not good lol) with your air pump you can run a few lines, if it,s a double line then more
air buddies if you can get them
and also what Camshaft Ramrod had mention
my trip was 11 hours...lost two due to fighting

yeah i agree with the above you may not even need to take them out of the tank but i bet theyd be heavy with water so id say take em out and put em in a tiub but thats what id do as distance runners are not the greatest lifters >.<
