owja, and when you turn up the heat, he will also grow way faster... 17" in 3 years is nothing. mine did that in 3/4 year.

I keep my tanks at 78-79 degrees, and rarely ever go over 80. My eels were 2.5" when I bought them, and grew to just over 16" in just under 2 years.

I'm not really sure but mind had got the same thing! and he was started swimming really fast out in the open and then the next morning he was dead:cry: ahd him since he was 3" he was 8"
it's funny that you mention that you added another fish i added a couple new fish then mine got sick...mine probably went faster b/c he was small..
later i read that there is some kind of bacterial disease they can get for new additions and there was pretty much no cure yet simply b/c its so fast acting.

Never heard of that bacterial disease from adding new fish. I've added several fish with my eels, as well as changed tanks when they outgrew the smaller tank. No problems.

i read an article in a aquarium mag. i had never heard of it either but it's supposedly becoming more common...

I know that they are more susceptable to disease if other affected fish are introduced to the tank, but I know that if healthy fish are being introduced, the eels should be just fine. Kind of like bala sharks, they are more susceptable to disease than many other fish.

i just had alot of experience with this problem and i lost 4 fish in the proccess. my fish started getting "the film" and i did the salt. my ratio is 4 lbs per 100 gallons but within 2 days. not all at once. the guy i talk to is nicknamed the fish doctor. if u dont see any results within 72 hrs something else is causing the bacterial infection. after that the most probable cause is an internal parasite which could have come from ur other fish but it can take awhile for them to become a problem. hopefully ur fish is strong enough to hold out this long. if u see flashing or itching its a gill fluke or somethin of that sort. one word "Prazipro"
