u shouldnt boil ur stuff bro,
keep ur lights on low for a week,
cpl hours a day,
and dont give the plecs algea wafers...
as a matter a fact dont giv ur fish much to eat for the next few days because they will eat any organic matter including algea when hungry....
a bn should not b not eating the algea....he most b full off of a better tastier food sorce...
u can wipe the glass down and gravel vac too...
this should prevent u from using chemicals which is the best way!
just b patient

i had a little bit of a nitrate spike back in the early days

i know exactly what you mean about the reagents, and i try to follow their directions explicitly.. i work in a biomedical research lab so i sure hope its not user error or i fear i may be severely under qualified for my job

good plan

I really dont think the uv sterilizer is what i need. my issue is not green water and thus is not free floating algae
the problem um having almost looks like a moss im telling you guys its mad thick, it looks soft and fuzzy, and is "tufty" if thats even a word haha

prolly just really dense green algea...
algea grows differently in different water conditions, and ur prolly runnin a high ph....
there are chems out there that can help u with the issue but i wouldnt recemend them unless u had hair algea which is really difficult to get rid of ..abut green algea isnt.....allso using chems causes a fast death of the algea which in turn causes a fast spike of ammonia because of the decay..which can b bad for ur fish and ph...so as long if u keep the lights low, clean up what u can with out boiling because boiling kills ur tanks mini ecosystem, and feed a tiny bit for about a week u should see a big difference

thaanks danny

thats exactly what ill do.. starting today

right after i run out and pick up a new sheldon black bubbler

-->anyone here know about that?!?!

hey man just wondering how your tanks going for you. I hope with all this information you found something is working for you. But this is what I love about aquariums. One problem always has a bunch of fixes. So its fun to figure it out. Anyways I just wanted to see if anything was working for you.

so at this point Ive got my lights running for only 7 hrs a day

ive reduced feeding, and increased water change frequency

the algae is no longer overtaking the tank in a weeks time.. there are still some problem areas but every time i get in there i remove more and more of it so Im hoping that eventually the problem will cease to be
