Hey guys, my one foot long arapaima decided to take a leap of faith and jump out of its tank today. I must have forgotten to place the weight back on the cover which i used to cover the tank. I think it's been out for quite some time before i notices it as its scales felt dry when i place it back into the tank. Theres open wounds near its tail and i notice some blood stains on my floor. I also notice that it's color is not as vivid as before and theres some cotton like material on one side of its body. there's also red spots and some of its scales on the head can be seen clearly. I've added melafix into the tank. But im just not sure what should i do, can you guys please help me. Thanks.

I would do salt over Melafix. However do one OR the other, not both.

Water changes are also a must! I would do a water change tomorrow and re-dose the Melafix or salt.

Keep us updated.

he should be fine, they breath air o no worries about him not getting air. and do the salt over melafix or pimafix. post some pix pls so we can see if these red spots will cause problems.

Thanks for the info guys. i did the water change and decided to continue using melafix. The red spot on closer examination is due to a scale that dropped off from the fish. The cotton like material on the sides has since dissapeared. Its happily swimming n eating now.

i'd have just gone with salt, arapima are tough fish, no need to medicate for a small "out of tank experience".
