My discus are not eating. I bought 3 dark blue discus. But they are pale in colour now. And are not eating. All of my discus are not eating but angels are eating. I gave them pellets, bloodworm and flakes. They are scrating themselves by rubbing their bodies against air tubes. Two discus are breathing heavy but three are breathing fine. Can i use the same amount of medicine i use when my angels when they are sick. Or do discus need special treatment. What could be wrong with them.

All the parameters are good. Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0 and Nitrate 6. Ph is 6.5

sounds like ur fish r coming down with ick. then again they could be stressin try adding some aqurium salt. tell u what if that don't work try putting some live plants in da habitat discus seem to love this; will help if they r stress.
almost forgot check water temp

Can I use medicine with live plants? I am using heater and constant temp of 28C. Can salt and medicine be used with plants?

What about Colour of discus? Are dark colour ok or light colour ok? My new discus tank but the discus are in a hosiptal tank. I have three more new discus. I will take the pics and post them.

I doubt it's ick. In 25 years, I've never heard of discus getting ick. Its possible you have some internal parasites though, and the adding stress is causing a secondary external parasite outbreak. On the other hand, even healthy discus sometimes scratch an itch, it's nothing to worry about unless the flashing is constant. The not eating can be a sign of internal parasites, especially in a tank with mixed species from different sources. Examples are nematodes, tapeworm, etc. The best treatments are probably Prazi and Metro. I would not use them in combination though. I would use a Prazi Pro treatment, followed by a Metro treatment. By the way, if you dose salt in a tank with plants, you'll likely kill them. Salt is the main ingredient in many herbicides.

i wouldn't trust it what i suggest that you have a quarantine tank set up i would try to use a 10 or 20 gallon and no more than a 20. treatment can be costly when tring to treat your set-up if it is big.

Ok, I have already put salt in the planted tank because I was so worried and did not received any reply. Now what should I do?

Doh!:duh:

Just hope you didn't add enough salt to kill the plants I guess.

It's possible for discus to contract ich especially when some people keep their fish in temperature below 28 degrees Celsius and fail to quarantine new arrivals.

Plant damage should be temporary.
