help my fx5 blowing alot of air in the tank

Sounds like user error.
Eheims cost significantly more in the beginning and significantly more in the long run due to inefficiency. If my FX5 only lasts 6 years it will have saved me enough money on electricity compared to the cost of running an Eheim 2262 (the only comparable Eheim filter) that I could afford to buy a brand new FX5.

Answer to your question from Hagen themselves,



" In most cases of this which we have seen, the filter has been charged with a polishing pad. These must be placed correctly and maintained properly for expected performance. Sometimes, when using the A246 Water Polishing Pad or the A248 Fine Filter Pads, the filter becomes clogged quicker that expected. These pads must be used in only the top or middle basket. These pads clog very quickly. The A246 must be changed every 7-10 days or sooner. The A248 must be changed every 4 weeks or sooner."
 
exactly..i mean..if theres 2 handfulls of people who would swear by the FX5, and a handfull who wont, it doesnt mean that its hagens fault or anything on the side of crappy manufacturing, just user fault..i have absolutely no problems with my FX5, and thats just using biomax, prefilter media, and the foam pads..now if using a fine pad or polishing pad of the like, where its sososo fine, i can see why there will be problems if the user doesnt maintain them..which is why they clog and create problems as well..

I own eheims too (and renas while we're on the subject) and they're nice filters, but they definitely have known issues as well, one of mine is a pain to get primed. And I really don't like my renas (xp3s), they've given me nothing but problems. I've never had any issues with my fx5 that werent easily fixed.
 
i made the mistake of putting some carbon impregnanted filter floss in my FX5.. it got clogged within the week.. and like an idiot, i just didn't associate the air bubbles with the filter floss.

we restarted the filter 3 or 4 times, and it purged the air out, and then started bubbling again in less than 24 hours. took me a few days to realize my HUGE mistake.. but it's fixed now.. no more filter floss in my FX5.
 
And if all these responses did not do it.....
Call Fluval support and they will grant you an RMA code to return the unit to them.
They repaired mine no questions asked and shipped it back to me within a week.

Gotta love the automatic prime on the FX5. This should go away in a week or so, but if it does not you might want to reorganize your media. I know this might be a pain in the rear, but it's always helpful when you read the whole manual.
 
And if people read the manual they will also notice that the Fx5 has an actual flow rate with media of 607gph (page 3 manual)
