After owning fx5 for six months, my thoughts are not to impress, 6 liters of media on the baskets, constant cleaning, can't use polishing pads, micro baubles, ugly intake looks like a big computer mouse, so you end up with a bucket full of sponges that pushes 900gph, sorry not put your filter down but i have eheims running for 20 years no problems, its true eheim cost a little more in the beginning, but cheaper on the long run; not to mention no hassle with them, i own 10 and not one has had issues.
Eheims cost significantly more in the beginning and significantly more in the long run due to inefficiency. If my FX5 only lasts 6 years it will have saved me enough money on electricity compared to the cost of running an Eheim 2262 (the only comparable Eheim filter) that I could afford to buy a brand new FX5.
