I have a outdoor koi pond and 2 of my koi are sick. One of them has a red/pink ulcer behind the one of the pectoral fin. The other one has a swollen gill plant. I would like to know what you think both of these are so I can treat it as soon as possible, and what medications I should use. thanks

Have u done a water change?, in my experience many ulcers are caused by injuries such as from rough substrate.

A pic might help. Shot from above, maybe even the fish out of the water.
I just looked in my veterinary text book of fish diseases, under the topic ulceration.
There were about a dozen causes, each with its own treatment
It could be bacterial (Aeromones, and Pseudomonus are common) requiring antibiotics (one if for gram neg bacteria, another if for gram pos).
Or... a nematodal parasite such as Camallanus requiring a anti-wormer medication like Levamasol
Or... anchor worm (not actually a worm), but a crustacean requiring a medication with a chitin inhibitor.
To answer a question like yours properly, many more specific details are needed.
Beside the pic of the infected areas, water parameters can be helpful.

how big is the pond? how big are the koi? how many fish? what type of filter? need to give as much info as you can. Sounds like problems caused by poor water quality? Hope you can get it sorted out good luck.

I agree with everyone above. Without pictures and more details about water parameters and where the koi are being kept all anyone can do is guess. And that’s not really going to help you at all.

I think the ulcer is from the substrate (gravel) and the swollen gill plate I think is some kind of fungle invention . water quality is fine . dose any body know how to treat a fungle invention . I would post a picture but im new here and i cant figure it out:( sorry

Bit of difficulty for sure. My suggestion would be to isolate the fish to some container or tank. Then dose with with seachem paragaurd, kanamycin and furan2. Then do a bath of methylene blue of a teaspoon per 5 gallons. Add salt to the bath at 1 tsp per gallon and soak for up to 30 min. The bath for 7-10 days. If the fish starts acting strange or turns over while in the bath then return to the quarantine tank.

Will likely need to treat empirically as anything can be a cause. Too many bugs as Duanes mentioned.

The other problem is ur pond may need to be treated with meds or UV. Not sure as I’m not sure about ponds and what can be done to it. In regards to the acute and preventively. Once the fish goes back it’ll be exposed again.

Best of luck.
