You might try earthworms? I've never heard of a fish starving itself to death with out an underlying problem.

Could be internal parasites. Have you quarantined the moke when you first got it?
Try not to comm moke with other bichirs or other fast fish. they are very gentle feeding polypterus and is slow in getting food. Try keeping it, moke only, in a separate take and try feeding ghost shrimps or earth worm. If all else fail, try hikari carnivore pellets. Since u saw it take some food, chance are it like that and u can try feeding it again in separate tank. Nurse it back to health, before u put in back to comm, if u still wan.
My moke has been the most gentle eater of all the polypterus ive had (all except PBB and congicus). He eats alot, but the manner in which he eats is very slow, gentle bites. I agree with a divider/seperate tank until it gains some confidence.
