HELP!!! My new arowanas has not eat more than a week

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would not worry too much about them not eating for a week. I seen aro go on hunger strike fir a month. I would just leave the light on so they get used to it and check your water. The gar and cat should go temporarily till your aro gets accustomed

And I really do not have anywhere else to let cat and gar go. My quarantine already has 2 oscars. because they are too aggressive, these 2 oscars harass, wound and finally killed my last silver arowana.....
So, I put them here, to let aros fit into 1st.

Arowanas are docile so they are slow eaters.. they may not be the first to jump until your gars attack first for food. What are you feeding?(pellets) he may be picky and on pellet strike. to be safe go to petsmart buy a bunch of crickets. Arowana are readily accepting crickets as it is their favorite food. If the arowana eats the cricket, its on pellet strike. nothing you can do but to starve it. If it doesnt eat the crickets... Water change, stresszyme, and watch it.if the gars and other tankmates are pretty much the same size as the arowana... it could be a threat (for it) even if it doesnt fight with the arowana. in an enclosed space, its stuck with competition. But crickets are best choice right now. MUST BE LIVE.

A sticky on Arowana subforum talksa bout feeding your arowana. that is a great guide on what to feed it. It give you an idea of variety. But Crickets are always the best foods.. especially when sick.

Water issues aside, it's normal for aros to go on food strikes. They will eat when hungry enough, not a big deal really...

They aren't going to starve then selves to death...

How is your water today? Make sure you are doing your water changes to keep that ammonia in check so it doesn't do any damage to the fish. I've owned 6 aros and never experienced a hunger strike from them. If your water clears up and they aren't under stress they will start to eat.
