Hello all.

This is my new (and first) Flowerhorn "Giggsy" and he/she happens to be peeling on its head! I am not familiar with Flowerhorns so I do not know if this is normal, although it doesnt seem to be.

I got Giggsy on Saturday and introduced it in my 155g tank (pictured below). They have plenty of swimming space as well as hiding places.

I do have Rooney, a 9.5" Red Devil, which is bigger than the 7" flowerhorn. At first (while all the rocks were outside of the tank as I cleaned and rearranged the setup), Rooney was following Giggsy around the tank but this stopped once I finished organizing the tank.

Giggsy was fine until this morning but when I got home a couple of hours ago, I noticed this peeling on its head. The pictures don't do it justice and I manually changed the lighting to try to get a better shot.

It's not a parasite (although on the pics it kinda looks like it). It is the same as if it was shedding/peeling. None of my other fish have this. I have yet to check the parameters as I wanted to start getting some opinions as to what it could be and how I could resolve it.

Giggsy's behavior is and has been normal, but it doesnt seem to like eating pellets as I clearly saw how he/she sucked it in while almost immediately spitting it out. I dont think that this rejection of food is the result of this "issue".

That being said, what should I feed it?

For now, please take a look at the pics and let me know what you think.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Update:

I tested my water parameters and everything is well. The temperature is at a steady 77.3 degrees.

Now I am really concerned!

Please help!!

Any suggestions? Because there are plenty of hiding spots. Any product you recommend to aid in his/her recovery? Also, are you able to determine its gender from the pics?

Im guessing some other fish is beating it up, what are the tankmates?

Also try some Melafix for the injuries

I don't think that flowerhorn is letting itself get bit like that on the head, it seems that it is bumping its head on a rock while darting for cover
