Can you teach me how to prepare a Beef heart meal? i would try shifting to beef heart

I usually just chopped them into small pieces, and I did wash them before just to clean some of the bloods, then I feed it to my bichirs. Beef heart is not the only options, you could try variety, like market shrimp, just make sure that the size of those food you give would not make your bichirs choke them self.
Some people use sinking pellets, Hikari Massivore I think, but those are not available in my country, so I just use whatever is available here. I feed my floating pellets which took me ages to train them, only because we dont have sinking pellets for fish here. But again, I do give my bichirs variety of food.
Now back to your problem before, when I had my bichirs poisoned by chlorine in the water, at that time I saw those fins on my bichirs turning white, and the water smell was different. If you notice this happen with your bichir in the future then you have to do something immediately.

good luck with your bichirs.
cheers

no worries,
when the bichirs choked it self it really means that they cant breath normally, and its not always the food that cause it, but it can also be the water, ie. chlorine, which is a very dangerous chemistry in the water, it burns the fish lung, although people are still using them to clean bacteria in the pond. There is a stuff called sodium thiosulfate, which is a dechlorinator, but its mainly used in the pond not in the aquarium.
Just be careful when using local tap water. I hate them.
I recommend storing the water for a few days before using them for your fish, that way it removes the chlorine naturally; you could also expose the water in the container under the sun to speed up the process.
good luck with bichirs keeping..

cheers

letting the water age will only take out the chlorine, but will leave any chloramines that are used to clean the water, not everywhere uses this though so im not sure if where you live only uses chlorine or a combination of both, thats why i use "Prime" but then again im not sure if it is available where you are
