You should also consult the medicating polys sticky, they are intolerant to certain meds more so then most fish!
If its just a bacterial melafix will fix it, and it doesn't hurt bichirs at full dose, so follow the instructions on melafix, add a tbsp of salt for every 5 gallons (I do this over the course of several days, helps em adjust) and replace the mela and salt every WC. You should increase the amount of WCs and frequency, when my one polli palmas had a slight bacterial infection right out of the bag I did one every other day at 50%. VERY clean water will help, also what do you feed your poly?
