Yea looks like heater burn to me, my catfish used to always knock it off the glass then burn themselves laying under it. Buy a heater guard, I wouldn't have a heater without 1 now.

As for treatment just keep the water clean and add aquarium salt to speed up healing :)

its ammonia burn because you feed to much and dont clean the water enough or your overstocked.

Piranhas are the number 1 abused fish IMO. You need to do ridiculous water changes if your gonna feed them everyday.

That skin will eventually get more fuzzy then peel right off leaving an exposed wound. Do water changes. Meds not really necessary.

OP, tell us about the fiter systems you have running in that P's setup also tell us about your WC routine.

You should put up your water params. Its not a heater burn...
