I lost a male leopoldi a month ago probably due to chlorine poisoning. Another leopoldi, a female, has gone on a hunger strike for about a month now. I have tried to feed her mp, fish, squid but she just goes thru them without feeding. I change 25 pct of the water every monday then another 10 pct on fridays. My ammonia is 0, nitrite is 0 but nitrates a little high at 40. I have cleaned my sump and recently been changing 10 pct of the water each day to stimulate her appetite but to no avail. anyone has any ideas on how to make her quit her hunger strike ? another ray and arowana inside the tank is eating normally. by the way, how long can rays survive without feeding ? thanks guys ...

I'm not sure what could be ailing your rays or how long they can hold out without eating but have you tried earthworms or nightcrawlers? Your water params are probably not the problem based on what you've posted

night crawlers should do the trick. Even my picky rays won't pass up on them.

Treat them with Prazi. Probably flukes or worms, this is the main reason for loss of appetite, second only to poor water quality.

Hi Richard, don't want to hyjack this thread, but i have a pup that has a poor appetite. She seems to eat every other day and most definitely not got the kind of appetite she should have for a pup. Is Prazi safe for pups? I don't really want to treat at all if i can avoid it. The one that is not eating very well is in with 3 other pups in a tank linked to the main tank, so if i treat her then everything will be treated.

Not in all cases, my 2 rays ignore nightcrawlers and even black worms but go crazy for shrimp, ilapia, silversides, and even dried krill!

tks guys however nightcrawlers are not readily available in our lfs ... so i tried giving her bloodworms but she is not eating them ... she is moving but slower than normal though ...

Hi aquaman will try treating with prazi ... i have an arowana and another ray inside the tank ... is it safe to treat the whole tank with the other fish inside ? thanks !

Hi Godfrey,

Praziiquantel is safe for all fish including rays, we have one here in the UK that has the brand name of Flukesolve manufactured by VETARK. This treatment needs repeating 3 weeks later to erradicate any possible eggs that might hatch in the meantime. Avoid any wormer that is Flubendazole based, though very good generally for fish it is toxic to freshwater Stingrays.
PRAZI ALL THE WAY!!
Jim, I don't think your young pup will benefit from this but it won't hurt to try, its perfectly safe, use it all the time at work and at home.

All the best guys.
