thanks aquaman ... by the way, I have read somewhere that with rays with internal infections would poop out white stringy stool . I don't notice that white poop in my aquarium. should I go thru with the treatment or wait for other symptoms to show to make sure that it is caused by infection ?

I have never seen white feces from rays....treat it! there is nothing to lose, its safe plus you might just save the one you have left.

checked with the lfs ... what they have with prazi is tetra parasite guard ... Active Ingredients: Praziquantel, Dflubenzuron, Metronidazole and Acriflavin ... will this be as safe for our rays ?

i also forgot to mention that i kept a couple of small clown loaches with my stingray (about 8 of them and my ray is way bigger than them) ... i have since removed them from the tank ... is it possible for the cl's to have stressed the stingray ?

I can only recommend treatments I have personal experiences with. You will have to research this product, its probably ok but probably isn't an option when it comes to treating rays, you need to be sure, get it wrong and it usually ends badly. You could also try Tremazol, this is also Prazi based, I can vouch for this treatment, its made by Sera. A very large water change is required a few hours after administering this treatment, always read the instructions carefully.

Personally, I would only treat my whole tank with Prazi if I'm sure I'm having a parasite outbreak. If the main diet is live feeders than perhaps dosing the tank makes sense, though if its cut up mp's, fish etc. than I wouldn't bother dosing with prazi since the likelihood of introducing parasites is minimal. Any chance of posting a pic of this ray?

While your other fish is eating fine and only this ray is having problems with appetite I would use epsom salt and raise the temp before thinking of medication.

ok tks aquaman ... will try to check for those here ...

tks for the advice Raynado. i have a question though ... i would like to clarify the use of epsom salt over regular salt. I know that epsom is usually used to treat problems related to swim bladder ... in my case, would the use of epsom salt be advisable over just putting regular salt in my tank ?

Hi Godfreylang,

epsom is magnesium sulphate while aquarium salt is Sodium Chloride. Both have their own benefits, but epsom helps to release excess fluids.

When I experience rays with less appetite I always use epsom salt/raise temp and in a few days they're fine. This solution works for me and I'm sure other solutions works for others. But this is my first choice before I go thinking about using meds

tks raynado. I have been putting regular salt on my tank before but the ray is still not feeding. It will be almost a month now that she has not eaten but i am thinking she could be eating some of the leftovers of my other stingray. I have removed my driftwood a week ago and today I placed it back so she will be familiar with her surroundings. I will give it 1 or 2 more days and then will try to put epsom salt. Any idea on how much epsom salt to put ? I have a 350 gallon tank with a 150 gallon sump tank. thanks !
