I made a little pond on my patio....It needed a fish. My RD was on lock-down, so I decided to put him out there for the summer. He didn't like it......jumped out into the garden. Maybe he likes peppers?
I found him this morning when I woke up laying in the dirt. I don't know how long he was in there. He was still pretty moist and kinda moving, so I don't think it was that long. I quickly scooped him up and put him back in the pond. The water felt kinda cold (maybe why he jumped?) so I moved him inside. I cranked up the temps, added salt and stress coat. He's moving around and breathing good, but he is laying upside down. Think he's screwed? I hope not....I've had him a long time:( Here is a picture of him right after I moved him inside.

I'm glad he is okay - nice looking fish.

The female of my breeding pair of managuense jumped out once, I still don't know how she squeezed through the opening by the filter. I came home and she was starting to look dried out, must have been out awhile, but I put her in the water and started moving her back and forth anyway to run water over her gills. After a couple minutes I saw just the tiniest bit of movement from her gills so I kept moving her until they started pumping somewhat. Then she just lied on the bottom for hours. Her fins had dried out so much that within a few days the ends of the pectorals, anal and dorsal fins all rotted off, along with almost her entire tail. Her slime coat was all splotchy and she looked fungused and decaying. I was so amazed she pulled through, full recovery. Since recovering she has spawned and raised fry at least 5 times!! Her tail fin still doesn't look fully filled out but it is about the right size. I love that fish.
