Ohh man I hope she is going to be ok! I have some cork bark floating in the pond for her to get out on. I had tied some fishing line to some weights to keep it in the middle of the pond. Well yesterday evening I went to go look at the pond and noticed my RES was hiding under the corkbark it looked like. BUT in fact the fishing line had made one loop around her front arm waaay up high (not by the nails) I couldnt upwrap it becasue the arm was soo swolen and it was so far up in there. I cut the line and pulled it out. She still uses the arm every now and then but not oftin. Today the swelling looks less and she is able to get more of the warm into the shell. But I am worried that its too late and her arm is going to die and need to be cut off. What do I look for...it turning black??? The color looks to be normial for now but it does have some red like in the pic.

did the fishing line cut the leg where it was wrapped?

first most responsible thing is to run to a herp vet. it'll only hurt your wallet.

second would be to keep an eye on it and make sure the swelling goes down and she starts to use it more often. but if there's a laceration anywhere on her leg, take her to a vet, they'll give you antibiotics probably.

do you think you can give a comparison shot of the front two legs?

I couldn't see if it cut through. I didn't see any blood on the string and I have not seen anything that looks like a cut when she uses it but I am not 100% on that. She is using it more this morning for sure but still not like the other one. It seems the swelling has gone down some too.

I will see if I can get a shot of her other arm today. On the pic I have her "hand" is thick...its not that think usually. Her whole arm and hand were looked full and puffy....

Also looking at this pic and thinking what she looked like this morning...is it possible a nail fell off or she bit it off???? For some reason in looking at this pic I seem to remember thinking her nails didn't look right. I could be way wrong...but I don't know

How long do you think the string was tangled around her arm? I think it should be ok now that the blood is flowing back into the arm. If she's using it then I think it will be alright. It's kind of like when you wind a rubberband around your thumb and it turns blue. After it's removed it tingles for a while but when the blood starts flowing back it goes back to normal. Just keep a close eye on her.

I don't know how long...I cant remember if I looked yesterday morning or not. So I think at most a full day...but a full day is long. Might not have been fully wrapped all day. I am thinking it will be fine too...but i never had this happen before so I don't know what to look for if it starts going south....

Also that red tint on her arm is NOT normal in that pic...

I think/hope its going to be ok. Its kinda angled upward too...in that pic the palm of the hand is facing up. I bet it was pulling on it as well since it was attached to a floating thing. Probably lucky she could get air...she was under it. Poor gal it must have been a pretty bad day. Ate right after I freed her so she still is hungry lol.

Massage your turt arm gently to restore circulation and keep her warm:) As a matter of fact it could have been way worse. Your turtle could have eaten part of the fishing line:eek: Dont keep any fragile or non secure items in your turtle habitat, everythings needs to be safely glued, tyed, etc

It didnt even dawn on my that the line could cause problems...im so mad about this. i have been having this turtle for a long time.

I got a pic this morning...I dont know guys...what do yall think. Its doing something...is it bad...is it going to get worse?? I have other pics...this one is full size so you can see up close.
