My royal knife has developed a strange bend in her body. At first I thought she was just resting funny, but it has continued to get worse. Now she cannot straighten out her body:( At the same time she has been kind of listless. She has always been a picky eater, but it has gotten much worse. Now she snaps at the goldfish but usually she missed them. It has been very difficult to get her to eat at all especially because her tankmate is a serious pig and eats everything. I do not know what could be wrong with her. But I am worried because my clown knife in a different tank is starting to rest funny in his pvc tube with a bend in his body similar to my royal knife. Has anyone observed this before in another knife? Any ideas on what I can use to treat them?

Here are some pictures. My clown knife definately has the same thing. It is a dorsal bend.
I have moved them to the same tank and have started treatment with tetracycline.
I recently had a Mycobacterium mariunum infection and am wondering if they could have it too. I throught I was exposed through my saltwater tank when I was stabbed by a piece of live rock, but in reality I probably could have gotten it from any tank and the punture wound was just the opening for it to get in. Now I always wear gloves, but I did not know I had an infection for about 3 weeks. (It is a really slow growing bacteria.)

you should also post this with the pics on diseases and injuries area.. you need help pronto .. so i would make this post more available then just in knife section..good luck!

Yes, I agree with Red_Devil. Your knives need urgent diagnosis and treatment badly. They look pretty bad.

Do you have a vet that treats fish (We have 1 here in Singapore)? If yes, pls seek help quickly.

That looks like a pretty nasty kink in it's body. I don't think you can transfer a human infection onto a fish so I don't think that would be the case. How's the water?

Well I decided to treat with Tetracycline. My clown (Daryl) died:( It was really horrible. I went into check on him and he was lying on his side on the bottom. He has always been my favorite. He was my first knife, I had him for 7 years since he was a baby. To add insult to injury, I got poison ivy while burying him in my back yard.
But my royal knife seems to be doing a little better. She is still very kinked, but she has been more responsive. She is also eating better although she still has a hard time catching the goldfish. Now that she is on her own tank, I can just put the goldfish in and she can eat at her leisure.
I did some internet research on fish diseases. And I think it is possible that they have the same Mycobacterium that I have, however I am pretty sure I got it from their tank water after I was stabbed by a piece of live rock in my saltwater tank. Since my infection is under my skin I don't see how I could have transmitted to them. But I am suspicious of the goldfish I am feeding since my fish were in two separate tanks and the goldfish are the common denominator. I am thinking of switching to a sulfadrug antibiotic which is recommended if this is the bacteria, but since my royal is doing better on the tetracycline I will probably stick with it for now. I can always switch later if this one is not working well. I have been on multiple antibiotics on for about 12 weeks so far and my infection is still lingering although it is getting better. I actually do not think my royal will recover given her current state, but I am really hoping she will.
Thanks for all your suggestions. If anyone has more, please let me know. I will keep you updated...
