Help!!!! I just got home to realise that my 5 inch Senegal has damage his/her eye....... i don't know what to do. Don't know how it could have done it... currently housed in a grow out tank with a 8inch Florida Gar...

It looks like his eye "cover" has come off his head and there is a little bit of bloody surrounding it.... it looks pretty painful. The pics don't really show how the skin/cap of his eye is actually folding away from his head....

Can someone please give me some advice on what to do?

i think it's cloud eye, not pretty sure though. melafix would help if it is indeed an infection.

I do quarter water changes twice a week.... I add a table spoon of salt for every 20L of water I add to the tank..... I don't have test kit so I have no idea what the water quality is like but with the amount of water changes I do the water should be good.....

THe bichir seems to be swimming around a litle more actively than yesterday.... not sure how its all going to go.

Does cloudy eye go away? I haven't seen a case of cloudy eye this bad before with the cap of the eye lifting away from the head.

cloudy eye takes a while to go away.. i usally just add salt and do water changes and it becomes better. but your pic shows cloudy eye, but you said his eye cover is floating.. so i dont dink that a sign of cloudy eye.. the other thing is he probably hit something sharp or scratch something in ur tank cause he got scared.. but salt/melafix should help...

My aro had that. The eyes will start to peel. It's bacterial infection. If you don't treat it quickly, the slime coat of your senegal will start peeling as well and that's really, really bad. I added salt and did water changes but.....I couldn't save my aro.

I'd suggest using some Melafix.

ok.... I bought a water testing kit...

Ph - 7.6 (its a tanganyikan tank that has been partitioned)
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 0

I bought some Melafix and will do the dosage for the next week.

Hopefully all will go well.. I am freaking out as this little Senegal was the life of my tank and definately has the best personality of all my fish.. It would be horrible to see him go.

Hope all goes well for you. I'll bump this for ya.
