Help my tank has bowed!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it kinda looks like you had some heat producing lamps on top and it bowed the top .... it happens to people new to saltwater acrlyc tanks alot and it honestly dosnt take much heat to slowly bend the acrylic ... but in my opinion it isnt a defect that would cause a malfunction unless that brace becomes thinner and shows damage from the heat (bubbles burns cracks and hasing) well good luck

i think structurally it is fine. Call the manufacterer to be certain. Just a little nerve racking im sure. you should be ok. acrylic is tough stuff.

I went ahead and took it down for now. I noticed crazing on the rounded corners and inside the top seams. That along with the warping caused alarm. Id rather be safe than sorry with 100 gallon of water on the floor

I hope everything turns out ok, you got me a little scared now; I just ordered an acrylic tank.

Were the slits for the HOB filters made by the manufacturer? Neither of my Tenecors have slits for HOBs, but then agan they are way bigger.

I have cut slits in acrylic tanks for HOBs before.... I had the same results your tank is experiencing.

I'de brace/reinforce it then set it back up. If you're worried about seams glue in triangular braces, with acrylic glue (Weld On) nothing else.

Any acrylic manufacturer is going to tell you some warpage is normal.

Yes those slits in the back were done professionally by a plastics manufacturer in town. They didnt notice any warpage or downward sinking. I will call them today to see if they can reinforce the top somehow

bingo! professional modification is to blame. :nilly:

Same thing with my 55 gallon. It's been that way for a couple years with no problems. I've considered re-enforcing it with another piece of acrylic, but never got around to it.

Since yours is new (mine is 15 years old), I'd talk with the manufacturer.
