HELP!!! my thermometer broke in my tank!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If it's the typical thermometer bought from a petstore recently, no mercury worries.

Mercury thermometers stopped being made in 2001 here in the US.
thats right, I think they stop using mercury in making thermometer for a long time ago; instead of that, they use some kind of chemical that is not dangerous and environmental friendly!

There is no evidence that playing with mercury as a child causes infertility HungDang. There are a TON of people out there that used to play with it as a kid, and they now have many children. Tons. If you don't believe me, google it.

that is scientific proven. They might have played with something else that they think that is mercury. And there are some kind of foods that help lower the amount of mercury in your body! Google is a search engine, so it provide everything relevant to the thing you search, so maybe those people lie or maybe their living habit help them somehow!

No, it was from the mercury thermometers. It was popular in the US to do so. Again, if you don't believe me, google it. I highly doubt a ton of people that are talking about mercury poisoning on a forum would be lying to each other about having children. I know my dad played with it as a kid as well, and here I am.

Touching mercury isn't going to harm you in anyway, unless you have an open wound. Only thing you need to worry about IF it is indeed mercury is the vapor as it is the most toxic form that enters through inhalation. Heck you can even pop a small amount of mercury in your mouth and have no effect since liquid mercury is inert. Very little is absorbed into your body, most of it just pass through the digestive tract. but I don't recommand trying it. Somehow I doubt those beads are mercury, just lead.

put it in the mouth is sure the way to die if the amount is enough, I've read about a Chinese man(maybe an emperor) drink mercury because he think it can make him live forever but he die right after drink that thing!

Not enough in a thermometer. Give it up...
If you ever drink enough mercury for it to be toxic on purpose, you are either mental or suicidal.

And no, the person who died from drinking mercury in hope of eternal life isn't a chinese emperor. They know long ago that mercury, or silver water as they call it, is toxic. The person who died drinking it in an attempt to find enteral life is Isaac Newton.

Anyway. You'll be fine as long as you get all of the debris out of your aquarium iirc.
