Help! Myt ray stung me

My retic hit me on purpose when she was prego. Worst pain ever for about an hour! Soaked my hand in near boiling water for 45 min. It was the only thing that eased the pain. After a few days, the tiny spot where she tagged me turned into a large hole that looked like a serious electrical burn. I still hand feed but I am much more careful to make sure I don't spook her.

First of all, rays dont have venom and they dont inject you with anything. They have a toxin in the membrane that surrounds their barb. When they tag something, the barb comes out leaving the membrane in the wound to release the toxin. Even if the ray "just scratched you" youd be in extreme pain.

So, apparently the ray never broke your skin or else youd know it and in that case you have nothing to worry about.

I never got stung by a ray that Ive kept but I got stung this year after stepping on one while fishing and it was PAINFUL. Id never wish that on anyone!

maybe you should cut the guy a break, ever hear that #%$! happens. Maybe he moved a little too suddenly, you can't predict these things and if you are around them long enough it could happen to anybody.

To be completely honest You are a really experienced fish keeper and at 12 or 13 you have a lot more sense and keep fish better then most of the "grown ups" on this forum. You are not a complete idiot!

Your definitely not a complete idiot, stuff happens and people panic no biggie. I've been keeping fish for a minute and still make mistakes, the fact that you sought out info. and realize your errors means your always going to grow and there's no smarter move then always trying to learn.
