it is a Carapo, I am sure, and a banded one which is much more reare that the black one...

I found a picture of the Carapo..sure does look close.. yikes !!

I just want to know if this helps with ID..he burys his body into the gravel.. is this normal behavior for knifefish or is this something that helps with his identifying him because of unique behavior??

In a last ditch attempt to ID i am adding a couple more pictures..maybe theres something that will help..like his underneath is a little more noticable.. if this is a carapo does anyone have info on this one..

Liz, all i know about carapo knifes is they get to about 24" and need minimum of 48"x24"x18" thats 24" on the width, males are more aggressive than females but can be kept with peaceful cichlids like eartheaters, severums etc not sure about other oddballs try and see! Good luck:D

Im not 100% but thats my opinion, i can try and get a pic of my carapo to compare it to.

Dan
