Hi guys,
Im looking at filling my 4x18x18 tank with an active top swimming fish.

Ideally a fish that thrives alone, and doesnt care about bare bottom tanks. Something of medium size please.

Ideas?
Thank you!

African butterfly fish. Gets a tad larger, hugs the surface and is occasionally busy, I loved mine when I had it

Looks really cool, im hoping for a fish that continually swims, arowana like, without the massive 3 foot size. Maybe a foot long
That's generally too big, my top dwelling chalceus is 5" and already feeling cramped since it's not got so much space to dart. Active + big + small tanks don't go hand in hand.

Hatchetfish are busy small schoolers that like the top

Butterfly fish are related to aros. Similar face as well.

Maybe i exaggerated with the '1 foot'. Hatchetfish seem cool, are they okay on their own? Im after only one fish

I have a male dovii rightnow and really enjoy the single fish, predator look of it all :) ive had community tanks before, it just didnt really do it for me as much as a single predator tank did
Well... Cichlids are probably the only things that work that bill right now. Wrestling halfbeaks are also a mix of predator, surface and smaller. Interesting little fish.

I don't think anything matches an aro in a smaller tank
