Help needed with Chiclid tank.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Labido...isn't that the sex drive? Appropriate for that fish, I guess.

I'd never have a pleco in with African Cichlids if you plan on getting a huge variety Malawi' and Victorian Ciclids. When we first began buying Malawi's we only had a few and had them with a Green Terror, Dempsey, Acara, etc. But then devoted a tank just to African Cichlids. They can be real nasty and might bite your pleco's eyes right out.

You can have a beautiful setup in your tank, and there is such a huge variety of Africans to make your tank really colorful and outstanding.
You might like getting that Texas Holy Rock for your tank too. It's really nice.

I thought you might enjoy this site:

If I were you, I would get tanganykans instead of those from malawi. Not as colorful, but calmer and more personality.

OR, you can mix the 3 types. I had a mixture. :)
Malawi, Victoria, and tanganykans.

I must admit the main reason I would like to keep Malawi is because of the colours.

I would love to keep a marine tank but I don't have the time nor money for that, so Malawi Chiclids look the next best thing.

Thanks for the help so far.

Looking at the way you spelt cichlid, I suspect your saying it wrongly. It is pronounced SICKlid. Apologies if I have made a mistake.

Sounds like Lake Malawi cichlids are best for you. They are best off crowded to reduce aggression and territorial fights. Full of colour and activity.
