help!! new gar

It's not a shortnose it is a Florida Lepisosteus platyrhincus.

No gar should be called normal if it is twitching and spazzing out as you describe.
To even call this behavior normal is exceedingly retarded, irresponsable and down right ignorant about these fish...How do you guys sleep at night with advice like that ?????

That aside:
What are your water conditions like? specificly ammonia and Nitrates. Also please add details of filtration and exactly what it is you are feeding the fish. Lets see if we can't find the cause for your fishes distress and fix it.

Not retarded at all, it's obvious there is a problem, but my point was it's semi normal for a nervous gar to spaz out if triggered by aggressive or highly active tankmates.

It happened to my gar 3 times. Gar was healthy, water was fine, it was caused only by stress from tankmates, and I ended up having to keep him more or less alone.

If that's a florida gar it's extremely stressed, I've never seen a florida that looked like that.

Polypterus you need to sort it out, you're incredibly rude and angry.

i have a florida gar in a 125 with silverdollars, goldfish, a royal clown knife and irradecent sharks, and i have yet to see him bang his head, twitch, or play dead. i have no idea whats going on with your fish my man.

either my fish is retarted, or just dumb. he's grown over 5 inches in less then 2 months. spazzin out every now n then. he eats the most, swims the most, and wont stop growing. i know it aint my water cuz he's the only one who did it. skittish as crap. my 2 aro's are fine, my 2 spotted gars are fine, my gourami is fine, my 2 pleco's are fine. but my shortnose gar is the most skittish fish i've ever owned. still eats, still lives life, still growing. just a weirdo fish.

shortnose gars are freakin retards. they grow massively and twich like retards all day long. there the first to jump when u walk by the tank. splashing, always eating, twitching. super skittish of all gars i would say. pretty normal if you ask me.

Gars are hardcore in the sense of living in dirty water conditions,i have 3 1ft spotted gars and 3 ali gars that lives wit other fish like peacock bass and tarpon,at first when i mix them around they do get a little fight and it seems they are alright nw and get alone well.Not 2 worry about your gar it will get use to the condition and grow cheers
