I have a 110 gallon tank with two severums and 4 silver dollars and a convict. I recently bought a baby oscar 2 days ago. I had cleaned out 40% of the water before getting him because I wanted to make sure hed be healthy. I put him in and he was breathing hard and hiding from the other fishes. The 3 inch wild severum was scaring him and wasn't fighting would just intimidate it so I stupidly moved my oscar into my 10 gallon with guppies and a molly today. Now hes laying on the floor breathing hard so I think I made him worse :/ when a fish gets near he swims off quickly then lats back down and breathes hard. I put 20 gallins worth of the stress medicine from api? I added a little chlorine detoxifier just in case even though everythings fine with the water. Im just being overly paranoid. I also tirned off the lights from the 10 gallon. Is my oscar going to die?I feel like hes pretty shocked from stress. What can I do???

Did you acclimate him? Have you tested both tanks need more information

He is stress out badly from getting bullied then you moved him to a different tank made it even worse. And you add a bunch of chemicals....I say just leave him be and give him hiding spots so he can stay there.

+1 the fact that he's breathing hard may mean that you don't have enough oxygen in the water. If you don't have any air stones in the tank make sure you add a few. Also Oscars are notorious for pouting our laying on their sides when something happens that their not happy about i.e. A water change, tank move, bad O2, or bad temp. My best advice to you is to check your water parameters to make sure they are ok, make sure the tank is oxygenated, and leave him alone for a while. Based on the info you gave us I will bet that he will be the typical Oscar in the next day or two and will be eating everything you put in the tank. Keep us updated but I'm sure he'll be fine.

I turned on the airstone and just let him be. Unfortunately he died -.- is there any tip on how to not stress a fish when bringing it home? Usually I buy it then float the bag on the water then let him go. And the fish are fine. I should hav left him in the 110 because when I put him in the 10 gallon he completely freaked out and laid on his side right away breathing harder :/ so I want to be better prepared if that ever happens again. And no adding chemicals when there stressed? I didnt know that. I assumed the stress coat would be fine. This was the first time a fish has been that stressed upon arrival and I didnt know what to do :/

I usually float in the bag, sometimes drip acclimatise, and always put the tank lights off. Its going to be stressful no matter what you do, but these things have helped me. Also try re-arranging the tank layout as this will distract your other fish from the new arrivals.

Don't just float, that only equalizes temperature. Also slowly add tank water to acclimate ph, tds, etc.

When the fish is stressed out just leave it alone and its best to add hiding spots for him/her to hid in and lights off. When adding new fish, after you float in the bag and then slowly add your tank water to the bag so they get use to the tank water slowly and not get a big shock from it. Next time when they stress do not try to add a big dose of chemical because in my opinion I do not think it helps at all.

Thank you all. I just got paranoid and added chemicals without thinking :/ both tanks have hiding spots. The 110 has the cave houses and other spots. My 10 gallon has plants to hide in. Checked my ammonia today and its .25 so ima fix that. I never heard of adding my own water to the bag? Ive been floating them and then netting them out and since they were fine I assumed it was ok. Ill start doing that though :)
