Help newbie setup freshwater snail aquarium

If you've worked at various zoos, and want to get into peptide research->brain stuff, then why not just keep non-venomous snails at home, and work with the venomous snails at work? Best of both worlds, AND there's likely to be somebody present in the case of envenomation. I just don't think it's a good thing to keep super venomous animals (blue ringed octopus, cone snails, irukanji jellies....) in private aquaria unless there's 1) adequate antivenin on hand, 2) there's a history of exposure to that animal in your area. I think there's a similar argument for keeping "hot" reptiles.

I have actually considered seeking employment at a large zoological institute or aquaria, something that isn't reptile only obviously. I imagine that would be a good way to have adequate help on hand and integrate a research endeavor. I did get a job at my countries largest Reptile zoo twice over a few years on my own efforts no inside connections or whatever so I guess it's not impossible.

I am still looking into finding a good treatment center for my medical issues so I have a long time to practice with non-venomous Snails and hopefully after I recover I can look into the Cones and others a bit more especially when I get through school and find relevant employment

I am going to slowly start getting the 10g together so I will update everyone as I do and when it eventually has snails being added. Definitely gonna start with some easy ones and eventually get a second 10g going for the Assassin Snails

Please don’t get your hopes up with assassins, I’ve had them for a number of years now and have yet to see them actually eat a snail. I know they do bc I see empty shells and the pest snails population is decreasing. I do however see them actively hunt down fish food and eat that quickly.

I believe an adult assassin can eat 2-4 snails a day (size dependant)

I have noticed my assassins like to borrow into the sand for long periods of time, they also like to get into the nooks and crannies of driftwood. And I see them going for other assassin snail shell rides lol

the don’t reproduce quickly to cause an infestation but they are moderate reproducers
