OK I did a 30% WC last Friday. This morning my Jewel was dead. This afternoon I tested the water and my nitrites are way up. I just did about a 45% WC and tested again. Still real high. Help.

This is a 120 with an UGF run with two powerheads, a Whisper 40, and a Magnum 350 with bio-wheels. I've got carbon and crushed coral in the Magnum to try and raise the Ph.

Anyone got any ideas please?

Lack of biological filtration. Either you're overstocked, under filtered, or not cycled.

The tank has either just been set up and is cycling or you managed to kill off all of the BB for some reason (Tank crash)

That's what I thought too. But how would I have crashed the tank? It is not overstocked. There were only three fish in the tank.

Are you using dechlor when doing water changes?

No, when the water was tested from the tap, it was not needed. Could they have been wrong???

Have you recienty REMOVED a large bio-load from the tank or used any cleaning products in that room?

That wouldn't have done it...How long has this tank been set up?
