Help odor?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks! Which brand/flavor pellet food are you feeding?
Hikari gold and unmamed sticks that the guy from the shop recommended when I bought the rtm couple, well I find Hikaris smelly and I stuck more with the "unnamed" ones - the motas were raised with them and I think that they like them more.

There are hundreds of reasons a tank could have an odor. Be specific
Without a description of the odor (as someone else posted) its difficult to figure.
Rotton eggs? = Hydrogen sulfide building up in the substrate, from not enough vacuuming.
Fishy? = Dead fish or rotting food.
Other rotting smell?....Plant debris rotting
Earthy?.....All tanks have a natural earthy smell.
Something else all together?
Is it a smell only your wife or a woman can smell.
My "X-wife" could smell my basement tanks, up-stairs, I wouldn't notice the smell right next to them.

This on Hikari smelling...I've got to check downstairs myself, something has been lit for two days. I find when you have floating plants they hold food that catches near the filters and can rot. I quit using brine shrimp cubes because of that, just too messy and pieces go everywhere and catch.

Fish jumped out and laying on the floor behind the tank?

Just remembered, higher dosages of prime give off a sulphur smell. It usually doesn't kick in until the second day and then its like DA FUNK IN HERE???? :yuck:

I ran across this mostly with quick setups with no seasoned media, like qt tanks. I'd dose extra because of that then the next day would get gassed out. Unfortunately it takes days (or w/cs) to clear. ?
