Help on buying a bichir.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
get any lower jaw species you want except for the ornates and weeksis:

you can put 2 to 3 of these in a 30 gallon tank:

>albino
>Senegal
>Palmas
>Delhezi
>Retropinnis
>Mokebelembe
>gold dust palmas

with a 50 gallon, you can get 3 to 4 of them in a tank.

You can also put a few rope fish in the 29 gal but they escape easily.

If i were you i would watch the poly with the pleco. Plecos have been known to suck on polypterus and suck off their slime coat making them susceptible to disease. If you really want some cool polys and you have some money laying around try looking at rehoboth aquatics. If you love any polypterus at all this website is heaven to polypterus lovers they have all the polys i can think of other than hybrids.

I found a 2.5 inch Raphael cat inside my bichir mouth

Linx you really can't even fit 1 senegalus in a 30 gallon space that it needs. You can shove it in there but it will probably at one point in it's growth be stunted

Senegal should be fine.in 29g for atleast a year.a half. No need.to upgrade fast if you stick with senegal.

If you do get a bichir you know your going to have to get at the very least a 40 gallon right? But go to a Petsmart. I always see small normal senegals, and same thing as kevin anything that will fit in their mouth will likely be eaten. Cichlids are a 50 50 chance though they are fast but at night in that small of a tank they will not have a lot of room to retreat to. Night is when the sens will hunt when the fish are resting at the bottom.

+1

I've heard this happening to rays but never to polys. My del would never let any of my plecos touch him. Anyone actually seen this happen?
