fish wont starve themselves to death. when its hungry, it will automatically eat something. Besides, bichirs are hardy fishes and can go up to a month without food.

I've NEVER seen a poly turn down an earth worm....that being said all my polys have taken straight to pellets immediately, they are not picky in my experience. Get something with a strong cent, or something moving, those trigger poly strikes like nothing else.

In terms of general info you may find helpful, feed at night just before lights out. A lot of polys are shy (especially at first) and prefer to eat at twilight or as it gets dark. Space out feedings, polys aren't going to starve if you skip a meal and to be honest it's beter to start out underfeeding a bit than to fill your little poly like a football. Find the food that works for you. Every poly (as with every fish) is different. Mine won't touch bloodworms or mysis shrimp, but he can't and won't stay away from earthworms or tilapia if he's hungry. If you're worried about your poly eating, get a bunch of ghost shrimp keep the tank stocked with them and every once in a while drop a cut up eathworm (make sure you always give them a good wash you never know if they've been covered with pestacides/fertalizers) that's been rubbed with some garlic just as it gets dark or your turn off the light and you won't have a problem with a hungry poly.
Also remember, these are pretty hardy fish, they'll eat anything before they starve so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I think he ate a earth worm i put it on a clip and went to bed and it was gone in the morning so... idk
