Hi guys, I've been noticing a strange problem with my eels recently that seemed to get really bad this morning.
I've had this pair of spiny eels ("Starry Nights") for a few weeks now and I had them in a 20g while they were first bought. They're about 5-6 inches long and very thin (snakey, not underfed).
They started getting bloated and I figured it was because they were eating all of the food (and they were, my dwarf aquatic frogs were not even seeing the food before it was gone). So I moved them into the tank tat was going to be theirs anyway once a bit bigger, my 55g. Their stomaches became yellowish (one much more than the other) somewhere in this period and I was still unsure as to what it was but I have left it alone and I didn't want to have to medicate something so vague.
Now one of the eels seems to have the dark veins pictures running all down his body. I called a not-so-local fish store and the guy told me it could be water perams or hemorrhaging from the gravel (too big). My perametres should be fine and the gravel is regular natural gravel and sand.
I've been given the suggestions to check perametres, which I'll do, and to treat with a med with active ingredient nitropherasol (spelling?) for internal help.
I'd like other informed opinions just in case someone is more familiar with this specific sort of problem. Please help!
Note: They are eating and swimming just fine, their tankmates are almost completely comprised of friendly loaches. They've taken to swimming along one side of the glass sometimes. Other inhabitants are fine.
