Hey guys and girls, I have come to you for help.

My small Delhezi has developed a red tinge to the bottom of its eyes? Almost looks like blood...

I assume its not normal for this to happen, as anyone encountered it before?

Is it due to some sort of diet deficiency or water condition?

Any help much appreciated?

Thanks Duncan.

never heard of this.................ANNIE!!!!!!!!! get over here lol

i don't think its diet deficiency...but just curious what do you feed it?
don't think its water condition, unless its really bad causing it to get infected.

how long has it had the red tinge and how long did it take to develop? does it continue to get worse?

for now i'm gonna guess its some kind of injury. could it have scraped against something? accidentally bitten by tankmates?

yeah i'm gonna guess too that it could be an injury if it looks kinda like blood. i've seen that happen on my bichir's nose when i spooked it one time and it rammed itself against the glass pretty hard.

Um no not getting him stoned that i know of...

As far as injury i dont think that is possible hes just in his own 3 foot tank with a piece of driftwood and a whole lot of java moss, so i dont think its injury or stress due to tankmates as hes by himself... its in both eyes too.

He eats raw prawns, bloodworms (red mosquito larvae) and beef heart most of the time, doesnt really eat pellets or dried food, which i wish he would as they are a bit more balanced.... I will definately try to get him on to some dried food aswell as the meaty foods.

Still really worried...

All help / sugestions appreciated thanks.

so what is the solution? mine does have it to. i thought it was unique but now it seems not. i do have 4" of four delhenzi in a 10 gal tank. they do ram the glass when spooked that's why now i put black covering on sides and back. only the front is expose for feeding and cleaning.:(

I never encountered the case of bichirs, but, I have my 1st channa bleheri in a planted tank which had PH around 5.5 had the same situation. It died a week later. I then bought another channa bleheri and put in the same tank, and same thing happened. I moved it to another tank which had PH around 6.5 and it recoverd in few weeks. I am still not sure about what's the cause. FYI.

Something like this:
