Well I changed out the substrate in my african peacock tank a few days back and I guess I must have really stressed them in the process because yesterday I saw two white body fungus spots start on my eureka red and my malawi eye biter had one.

This morning I wake up to my eureka red with 4 spots now but they arent getting any bigger. My malawi eye biter still has the one but I cant tell if its getting any bigger. The worst part is now about 25% of my tank population has at least one spot, and my yellow labs must be more sensitive because they have all taken to resting on their belly.

About 4 months ago the same eureka red developed a slight case of the same stuff and I netted him out and actually scraped it off and it never came back or spread to my other fish.

What should I do?I dont want to put any meds in the tank that will do more harm than good like kill my biofilter or whatever.and definately none of that stuff that turns your water colors.

I am on the verge of freaking out, shedding a tear even as I watch over $500 worth of peacocks flash and become lethargic.

to make matters wors my boss called and said I might have to come into work today because some chic called in sick.

Thank you for your time on this matter,
SPF

I would give a dose of the erythromycin, since you have that on hand. First remove any biological media and store it submerged in the same tank water at room temp, shouold be ok for several days. Melafix might work, maybe not as well, but it is not suppost to effect bio.

Good question, and it might be a good idea if you have a quarantine tank, since bottom feeders and so-called scaleless fish are very sensitive to certain meds. You could medicate whole tank and watch him carefully over several hours to see if the eel gets distressed and then take him out. If he is good with it the treatment might be beneficial to him as well. Check on manufacturers directiuons and website for any other recommendations.

Okay Im going shopping for fish meds tomorrow.Melafix and what else?salt? If I take the media out of the filters I might as well just turn them off I suppose. So that medicine does kill my biofilter than?

I would treat the whole tank with Binox or furanase, niether should damage the eel or any other scaleless fish you have and with such a widespread infection you need to treat them all.
