HELP PLEASE!!Fungus outbreak in peacock tank.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
and are those both safe for my biological filtration?Im writing those down.So Im leaving right now and Im going to go pick up some melafix, prmafix, aquarium salt, and the last two guppy suggested.

I didnt use the erythromicin yesterday because it warns not to use it with any other meds and I knew I was going med shopping today. It sounds like pretty hard core stuff and the fact that it may hurt my bio spooked me enough that I put it off for another day.

My eureka red that had four spots is now back down to two but its appetite still sucks.

well they didnt have Binox or furanase, heck they didnt even have melafix or primafix.I bought a bunch more erythromycin, enough to wage war against gram positive bacteria for a month. Also some aquarium salt.

so I need to put my pot scrubbies in a bucket and put some of the used tank water in before medicating to keep them fed?

so how do I keep them fed after I medicate the water? It says I should treat for 5 days will the beneficial bacteria stay alive that long? Can I use water from my SA tank or my goldfish tank?

can I use the salt and erythromycin at the same time?

does aquarium salt mess with eels and soft scaled fishes?

Binox is safe with biofilters, furanase often kills them,
Most scaleless fish tolerate salt pretty well though some mormyrids and cories are touchy, I haven't heard of any interaction between salt and erythromycin.

okay thanks.
a few more questions:

what changes should I make to my feeding schedule while treating with this aquarium salt/erythromycin combo?I know fish can go a while without food but I hear young fish really should eat every day. is five days to long for juvenile malawis to go without food?

What about water changes?it says water changes are recommended between treatments, does that mean every day before I dose the water I should do maybe a 10% water change or does the full five days count as 1 "treatment"...meaning that after these five days are up I should do a water change before I begin another five day "treatment" process?

I have not used erythromycin very often as most diseases that effect fish are gram-negative and it is mainly effective on gram-positive ones, the water change recommended is about 70% between each dosing, also it is more effective if injested so I would just continue to feed, though lightly during treatment. If no improvement shows pretty quickly swith to some kind of gram-negative geared treatment. Since they don't carry furanase or binox, check fot Maracyn Plus, Maroxy, or Tri-Sulfa.

ah crap I read this too late!!!!I went down stairs this morning and gave the tank its daily dose on top of yesterdays,no waterchange. What do I do now?!Is that a super bad thing?Bad enough to classify as an emergency?

Dang, when you say if I dont see results "soon",what would you call soon?I did the first dose yesterday, todays number two,so maybe like by tomorrow?(today its looking worse than yesterday, but I dont suppose I should see results after one day, should I?)

So I probably need more meds?Being up to my neck in bills right now I pretty much spent all I could afford on that bottle of erythromycin :(

Is it even possible to clear up body fungus with erythrmycin and aquarium salt alone or am I wasting my time?

If this treatment doesnt work the next time I will have a chance to treat again with another med may very well be friday after next...you guessed it,my next paycheck.

By soon I mean 2-3 days, salt helps almost always, erythromycin slows most gram nerg infections, the massive water change is reccomended by breeders as erythromycin can damage reproductive organs pretty quickly but a day late isn't to bad otherwise. good luck

Alright first off let me thank you for all your patience and help so far guppy,I know I tend to rample in my questions.

That being said here is an update of the things going on in the tank:

-when I woke up this morning there were no improvments,in fact it is a little worse yet.

-My female d.compressicep has developed some sort of stomache problem. She is skinny, not eating well, and has a dark spot on (in?) her stomache
that is visible from both sides.

-One of my electric yellows has developed bloat.

-My dominant male peacock is the only one who seems to have the immune system strong enough to fight of the columnaris, and being as hes healthy and the others are sick hes taking this oppurtune moment to give them all a royal ass whooping.Hes basically taken to beating the **** out of them to make himself appear more macho, and he is doing quite a bit of fin damage to my sick peacocks.
If I wasnt in the state of mind where Im thinking he may be the only one to make it out alive I would euthanize HIM!!

I got marycin II today.I know erythromycin is the main ingerdiant to marycin I but I just wanted to make sure one last time that these two are safe to Treat with together.(200 mg tablets of plain erythrmycin activity with the Marycin II)I assume so because people use Marycin I and II togethor,no?

I was just reading the instruction booklet that comes with the Maracyn II and it says basically that of Maracyn I,Marycin II, and Marycin plus, the only one that harms Nitrobacter and Nitrosomas is Marycin plus, and only on a minor level.(it says "a slight reduction in biological activity")

Since erythromycin is the main active ingredient in Marycin than erythromycin and Marycin II together shouldnt harm bacteria, right?...(if what they say is true, that is...although I dont see why they would lie)

does anybody now this statement to be false?

If not than is it safe then to put my bio-media back into my filter?

Thank you for your time on this matter,
