Help Please. I just put a Male RD in with my Female

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i think your best bet is to remove the female for a week move around all of the decor, let the male settle in and after the week is up put the female back in and see how things go. always good to keep the divider handy tho.

if this doesnt work keep them seperated until the male is alot bigger than the female...10"+ then put them together and try that.

also have u got any pics of them now? id love to see more pics of your female and the male!!!

They will spawn through the divider just give them time but they may never get along without the divider. Once the male is larger than the female that should help reduce the females aggresive behavior since she is outsized.

i would not remove the female as stated earlier. this will cause the male to have the opportunity to make that tank "his". leave them in same tank with divider up for as long as it takes. let them both get more used to each other, this can take weeks. males SHOULD be a bit bigger then the female. and yes females can get very aggressive especially when you throw another fish into "HER" tank.

Heres some pictures, thanks for all the comments everybody. I'm thinking the divider is going to stay in there for awhile. If that doesn't look like its going to work after a few weeks, ill try to take her out for a week. If that doesn't work I guess ill just have to get him his own 75g, instead of a 125g for the both of em. Maybe ill go with the 125g for him anyways haha just to have it :)

Female right, Male left.

OH NO!:nilly: u got a vanity divider those devils can break it knock it down whatever u need to make a divider out of egg crate asap. They will break through that and kill each other in the middle of the night if not tonight definetly when they get a little biger i have lost fish in the past using that kind of crappy divider:cry: it's not for monster fish dude.

Interesting Update:

At first the female seemed to push the male around even through the divider. She would attack and he would back off. Now its starting to change, shes still going at the divider but he is starting to stand up for him self. He is starting to ram the divider, and making her back off. It seems since he started to stand up for him self, she is attacking less frequently.

I'm interested to see how this turns out, ill keep you all posted.
